Water Conservation and Pollution Prevention
Earth Day Cleanup!
During Earth Day 2017, a multi-team clean-up, designed and planned by Commodore's Green Team, featuring Accountants from one of our school's partners KPMG (a local accounting firm), as well as, volunteers students from Commodore PTO as well as students from numerous MD colleges (i.e. Towson, Morgan St., Johns Hopkins, UMD and Salisbury) all came together on and made a huge difference in our campus and local community. Along with cleaning up Commodore's campus we also spray painted various storm drains with anti-pollution statement and ecology-based stencils.
Water conservation signage
In 2015, a group of students created signs to post on sinks and water coolers to remind students and staff members not to waste water. This group of 4th graders are our newest and youngest Green Team members. They saw that the older students had already created great awareness around the school about the importance of recycling (see Solid Waste Management) and wanted to find a way keep students was wasting water, another environmental concern. They researched and chose their favorite water conservation signs from the internet and then posted these signs on water coolers and sinks around the building. They are hoping that these signs will remind students to treat water as a valuable resource. Pictures of the students posting the signs and the documents that they cut, laminated and posted are included below.

Healthy Harbor Field Trips
In May of 2016 and 2017, 6th and 7th graders from the Green Team will attended field trips to the harbor to learn about the Healthy Harbor initiative, observe the Pierce's Park's Rain Gardens, and meet Mr. Trash Wheel. They will be considering how Commodore can expand their current green efforts to include actions that will help keep the harbor healthy. They will observe the rain gardens in particular to consider if and how we could apply a similar technique at Commodore. This field trip is being coordinated with the Waterfront Partnership of Baltimore, Inc. As an additional way of focusing on green actions, students will use transportation methods, students will travel to this field trip on the Charm City Circulator.
