Celebrate
Mr. Trash Wheel's 2nd and 3rd Birthday Extravaganzas!!!
For the last few years Commodore John Rodgers's Green Team has been partnering with The Healthy Harbor Initiative led by the Waterfront Partnership. In May of 2016 and 2017, we were invited to attend Mr. Trash Wheel's 2nd Birthday party. There was one stipulation, we had to build and deliver him a "trash cake and cupcakes". It was an amazing experience, not only building the cake and cupcakes, out of trash we found in and around our school, but watching them go up his conveyor belt and into his "stomach". After the celebrations were over, the Waterfront Partnership took us on Eco-tours of the downtown area. During this Eco-Tour, we learned about native plant rain gardens, oysters and man-made wetlands, all of which are found in downtown Baltimore along the waterfront.

STEM NIGHT!!!
The 2017 Commodore STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) night in which students and teachers come together to celebrate a time of experiments and scientific collaboration. With the help of The Maryland Science center and Johns Hopkins University the Science Night has grown into a "can't miss" event where parents and students are actively immersed in different STEM activities and presentations related around this year's topics: ecology and engineering. It was a night to remember for the students and the school community!
BUGS Farmer's Market
B.U.G.S. or Baltimore Urban Gardening with Students has been an enriching after-school activity for students, provided by Living Classrooms, at Commodore for the last eight years. In 2016, the BUGS students design and help manage a Farmer's Market. During this Farmer's Market, which is open to the community, the students attempt to sell the produce and flowers that they have cultivated over the year. Along with the marketplace event, the BUGS students also choreograph and preform a dance routine. The fresh produce, face painting and dance routine all combine to make the BUGS Farmer's Market an event in which everyone leaves with a smile. You can see what the BUGS have been up to by checking out their blog. There are more then 30 Commodore students involved in BUGS.
